Commercial Solar Solutions Across the West of Ireland
Businesses throughout the West of Ireland are facing rising electricity costs, sustainability requirements and increasing pressure to improve long-term energy efficiency. A commercial solar PV system allows your organisation to generate renewable electricity directly at its premises. The electricity produced can support machinery, refrigeration, lighting, offices, building services, EV chargers and other operational equipment.
EnergieXPro designs commercial solar installations around each property’s electricity usage, operating schedule, available space and technical requirements.
Commercial Solar for Western Ireland’s Key Industries
The West of Ireland has a diverse economy covering agriculture, manufacturing, food production, tourism, hospitality, retail, logistics and public services. Every sector has different electricity requirements. EnergieXPro therefore develops each commercial solar PV proposal around the activities taking place at the premises.
Manufacturing and Agri-Food
Commercial solar can generate electricity for production machinery, food-processing equipment, refrigeration, ventilation, lighting and other regular daytime loads.
Hotels and Hospitality
Hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and leisure facilities can use solar electricity across kitchens, accommodation areas, laundry facilities, refrigeration and building services.
Warehouses and Distribution Centres
Large commercial roofs can provide valuable space for solar panels. Generated electricity can support lighting, refrigeration, offices, equipment and logistics operations.
Offices and Retail Premises
Offices, shops and mixed-use commercial properties can use solar electricity for lighting, computers, refrigeration, heating controls, cooling systems and everyday equipment.
Farms and Agricultural Enterprises
Suitable farm buildings can accommodate solar panels while the generated electricity supports dairy equipment, cooling systems, pumps, ventilation, lighting and processing machinery.
Schools and Community Facilities
Schools, sports clubs, healthcare providers, charities and community organisations can install solar PV systems designed around occupancy, electricity demand and available roof space.

How the
Process Works

01
Initial Consultation
Discuss the business’s energy costs, property and objectives.
02
Site and Energy Assessment
Review electricity usage, roof condition, available space and electrical infrastructure.
03
System Design and Proposal
Prepare a recommended system size, projected generation, estimated savings and installation plan.
04
Installation
Complete the installation with minimum disruption to normal business operations.
05
Monitoring and Support
Provide system monitoring, maintenance and ongoing technical support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Solar PV panels generate electricity from daylight and do not require continuous direct sunshine. Output varies with weather and seasonal conditions, which are considered when predicting annual generation.
The cost depends on the proposed capacity, equipment selection, mounting requirements, roof condition, site access and electrical work. A technical assessment is required for an accurate quotation.
Many agricultural properties have suitable roof space and recurring electricity demand from dairy equipment, refrigeration, ventilation, pumps and processing machinery. Each farm must still be assessed individually.
Eligible businesses and organisations may apply for the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant. Approval and grant value depend on the applicant, installed capacity and current scheme requirements.
Electricity that is not consumed or stored may be exported to the grid, subject to the applicable connection and export arrangements.
Yes, subject to technical assessment. The design must consider structural capacity, roof condition, waterproofing, shading, wind loading and mounting requirements.
Commercial solar systems are relatively low maintenance, but generation should be monitored and equipment inspected periodically. Alerts or unexpected reductions in output should be investigated.
Energy Storage & Tariffs in Ireland
Store extra solar energy in a home battery to use when rates are high, or sell it back to the grid under the Clean Export Guarantee and earn up to 25c per kWh. The best choice depends on your usage:

Battery storage
ideal if you use most energy at night or want to avoid peak rates.

Feed-in tariff
best for large systems with daytime surplus.
Either way, you’ll cut bills, make the most of your solar, and reduce your carbon footprint.

SEAI Commercial Solar Grants
The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant helps eligible Irish businesses and organisations invest in solar PV. Funding is available for qualifying systems up to 1,000kWp, with the grant amount calculated according to the installed system capacity.
The scheme may support:
-
Businesses and commercial properties
-
Farms and agricultural enterprises
-
Schools and public-sector bodies
-
Community centres
-
Non-profit organisations
What You Need to Know
Grant approval must be received before purchasing equipment or beginning installation work. The solar PV system must be installed by an SEAI-registered Non-Domestic Microgen company and designed primarily to generate electricity for use at the applicant’s premises.
The appropriate grid-connection application must also be submitted to ESB Networks before installation. The exact application process depends on the proposed system and export capacity.
EnergieXPro can help assess the proposed system, prepare the relevant technical information, support the grant-documentation process and manage the applicable ESB Networks connection application.
*The maximum grant of €162,600 applies to eligible systems of 1,000kWp. The amount available depends on system capacity, qualifying expenditure and the SEAI scheme conditions in effect when you apply.
